Scaffolding firm reaches new heights with Mercedes-Benz Arocs



Croydon-based ASA Scaffolding Services is running its first new trucks, a pair of


Mercedes-Benz rigids from the muscular Arocs construction range.

The 18-tonners were supplied by Dealer Rossetts Commercials and have lined-up alongside the company’s five pre-owned trucks, every one of which wears a three-pointed star.

Managing Director Lee Tolan, who established his business in 2008, said: “We’re doing well. The company is growing strongly and needed additional vehicles to meet increased demand, so we felt the time was now right to buy our first new HGVs.”

ASA Scaffolding Services, which also operates a number of vans, employs 30 people and serves customers throughout London, Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

“Mercedes-Benz is a great brand,” Mr Tolan continued. “Its trucks look smart on the road and have proved outstandingly reliable – our oldest is an 04-registered 18-tonne Atego which has never given us a problem. Also, of course, staying loyal to one marque makes life easier for our technician; he knows all about Mercedes-Benz products so it made sense to stick with them.”

Acquired with competitive funding support from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, the company’s new trucks are both Arocs 1824L models with L ClassicSpace crewcabs and advanced 175 kW (238 hp) 7.7-litre straight-six engines driving through standard-fit Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated transmissions. Their dropside bodies, meanwhile, are by Transport Enterprises, of Leicester.

For Mr Tolan, creating a positive first impression is essential. “The scaffolding industry doesn’t always have the best of images so we’re keen to demonstrate that we are a professional company capable of providing a high-quality service,” he said. “That starts with the vehicle we arrive at the job in, and for me there’s none better than a Mercedes-Benz.

Mr Tolan was also full of praise for Rossetts Commercials. “We’ve been really impressed with the dealer’s service,” he said. “Its Sales Executive Carl Cloherty has delivered on all of his promises. He helped us specify the trucks so they’re ideally suited for the job, and they arrived on time and exactly as ordered.”

A keen motocross rider, Mr Tolan is also in the process of buying a Mercedes-Benz-based motorhome to transport himself and his bikes. “I’ve had my current one for a year but with all the equipment we have to carry we’re close to the maximum weight, so I need to upgrade already.”
